Live to work, work to live, where is the balance!?

So hubby goes back to work tomorrow, after being home with Nicklaus all this time!  It will be a hard day for him, Nick is in school full time (by school I mean daycare) we like it to sound more official! haha
I hope  he stays strong and healthy.  We are back this week for RSV shots, then his four month old shots as well as Kylie's four year old shots - I am feeling a bad week coming on!  Kylie is already coughing, and I am afraid that the asthma will get the best of her, which puts us in a pickle!  We both are going to be very busy at work, which leads to very little time off.

I think we should rework the work week her in America, especially maternity leave.  You know in Canada I hear they get one Year off (feel free to chime in- my readers from around the globe).  That year off, is paid!  What a concept in how more productive the work force would be when they don't have to worry about the baby in daycare for the first year, hell, I'd take six months!  I think that overall people would be happier with a four day work week.  If we work to support our families and then spend all of our time working- what good does that do?  Such a fine line to walk, and so difficult to balance.  But I find that most people after a long weekend are so much more refreshed.  You are able to get things done and still have a day to rest.  Makes for a clear head a happier crowd!

Funny that from such a young age it is drilled into us, what college are you going to go to? What do you want to be when you grow up?  What line of work are you going to be in?  You have to be successful so pick well!  If it wasn't for my dad pushing me constantly to get a degree, I would not be where I am today.  I am grateful that he did it even if I gave him grief and struggled. College was not an easy time for me.  There always seemed to be some major drama in my life (shocking I know) and whether is was directly related to me or not - there was definite drama.  That can be another blog- long stories...

Nicklaus First day and the joys of motherhood

So Monday was supposed to be Nicklaus;s first day at day care after being home and out of the NICU however, I think the fear of school must of subconsciously weakened his immune system (not likely) and we found him sick - listless with congestion (RSV symptoms).  How terrible it is to hear a little one cough like that and not eat, not smile, just sleep..  so we kept him home, I too was home sick with you guessed it - a relapse of that nasty stomach Flu that won't seem to leave our house.  And to top it off Kylie got a touch of it followed by dad- So the day was complete.  Now it is Wednesday and we are all doing much better- tired but that is nothing new these days.  Life with a newborn, amazing but exhausting!

I try to type in between crys.. and here goes one...ahh the joys of being needed.  The four year old does not seem to understand if her feet are hot she can take off her own socks! Back to bed she goes. Cute.

Well life has been hectic as usual, between coming home from the hospital and trying to recover from my infections, taking care of the kids, all of us being run down and sick we had the holiday to attend to.  I also had to return back to work in January so I wasn't home that long with Nick.  It was a blessing that my husband was able to stay home with him and share that bond.  A mom always has a bond with a child, but a dad I think has to work a little bit harder sometimes.  They have to learn what comes natural to a mother.  Of course I am speaking in most cases-  It is an amazing thing- motherhood.  Nothing that anyone can put into words and trying never seems to give it justice.  I won't even try- who am I kidding I am sure at some point I'll squeeze it in haha

Time is up

Well we have come to a close on Nicklaus' time at home.  With bated breath he will be going to daycare this Monday.  Being that it is still RSV season and the fact that he is a preemie, we are concerned and praying that with all the fighting to survive this little one has done so far that he continues on this path of health.  It has been extremely difficult living life with a preemie, one that was as sick as him when he was born.  People do not realize and really can never understand what we have endured not only over the past few years, but the last few months.

Preemie's are know to have a host of issues, but born sick like Nicklaus, there are a whole host other issues that no one tells you about.  Nothing that we can not get through and nothing that should last forever.  The neurological development in my experience is the hardest.  The developmental stuff is common and they almost always catch up.  What is scary is not knowing what triggers him, what stresses he has, how long it will take to overcome.  We have come a long way.  He has come a long way.

He had his debut today with the Daycare.  He loved all the teachers and overall did very well.  Until he was just done.  Screamed the whole way home and is having screaming bits throughout the day.  Very strange.  I will be so happy when he is over this stage- and have no more worries about how he is going to handle things.

In the interim we day it one day at a time, and pray for the best!  Everyday is a marked improvement and we are so proud of all his little accomplishments.
